GBV & Mental Health Program

Empowering men and boys to champion equality and mental health

Societal and traditional norms in Malawi have fuelled the extent to which men suffer in silence. Societies believe that men should be strong, tough and silent. Our GBV program aims at empowering men to unlock their potential, to open up on issues that affect them, enjoy their rights, champion the protection of the rights of women and girls and reduce the societal gaps of inequality and discrimination between men and women through their access to the available information and services.

CAHESH’s GBV and Mental Health Program believes that men and boys will positively contribute to the eradication of violence against Women and girls (VAWG). Men Empowerment has been identified to highlight the importance of putting men and boys as champions and center pieces for the reduction of violence against women and girls. Men empowerment increases men’s knowledge of themselves to learn how to become vulnerable and allow themselves to express their emotions freely. It helps to enable men to acquire new skills such as decision-making, anger management, problem solving, and desire for more information and reduces the risk behaviors among men including suicide and drug and substance abuse.
